Data Sustainability Summit Foreword

Think about all the information you consume in one day–things like social media. Trending topics. Breaking news. Political movements. Natural disasters. Price surges. War. Humanitarian crises. The lives of billionaires. Space travel.

What do all of these have in common?

E.S.G.

We might not immediately make this association, but as our interdependence at a global scale becomes more apparent, our collective reaction and opinion shift to the most vital connections that bind us all, and these are: the environment, our social forums, and the governance with which we create policies for our mutual progress in business and in the public sphere. In the words of Wendell Berry “The Earth is what we all have in common.”

One might not immediately think of our carbon footprint, the #metoo movement, remote work, BLM, and decentralized platforms as connected, but these are all pointing at a global collective push to build a more sustainable, equitable, and inclusive society. As a result, public opinion and investment decisions are changing quickly and impacting everything from public policy to supply chains. Each and every business is being impacted in a different way, and one can no longer operate in the 21st without clear visibility into the ESG challenges and opportunities around them.

How do we begin to understand ESG and its impact on your business or your role? How do we succinctly capture the developing world around us to make better decisions with sustainability, equity, and inclusion in mind?

Well, think back to all the information and distinct topics we consume in a single day. They can also be understood as the threads that tie together the world we live in, and each one leaves a distinct impact on every industry it touches. Every single thing in that list results in a flurry of new data created every second of every day, whether people are Googling, purchasing, or investing as a result of what’s happening. All that data and information can help you understand ESG implications and make smarter business decisions.

We’re undergoing a paradigm shift, and data is the most impactful way to understand what’s happening.

But you might be wondering, how do you harness and use trillions of data points effectively? How do you use the information around to make those topics trend positive? What kind of external data should I be looking at? How do I bring it into my organization without a massive investment in expensive data professionals and infrastructure? If you’re asking these questions, you’ve come to the right place.

We invite our community to join over 30 of the leading experts and thought leaders in the data and responsible investing space for 9 carefully crafted and impactful discussions on these and many other topics during our virtual Data Sustainability Summit on April 26-27, 2022. RSVP here.
